Every year my local quilt guild has a challenge quilt. Those participating bring the finished quilts to our last meeting of the guild year in July. This year’s challenge was to do a miniature quilt, no more than 18″ on each side. The other constraint was it had to be a real quilt with three layers, quilted, bound, and labeled.
There were so many wonderful entries. My regret is I didn’t take pictures. The quilts included art quilts and wall-hangings, block format quilts, and medallions. My small group did a round robin to make medallion quilts for the challenge, and several of them were entered.
I brought two quilts. One was my round robin, and the other was made only by me.
This was a fun challenge. I enjoyed working in the small scale, though I wouldn’t say I am very good at it. Still, I like both of my quilts and am glad to have another token of friendship from my small group members.
i’ll have to echo the prior comments; I too have not done a mini persay. I’ve done some smaller ones but not 18″ or so. Both are very striking and pretty. Great job.
I’ve never done a mini–all the quilts I’ve made are maxis! But since it’s getting hard to store those maxis, maybe I should try working small. Your projects inspire me!
I like working big, too, though that has changed somewhat over the last few years (to lap-size, not bed-size all the time!) Small is a good challenge, though. For me the main thing it did was make me think more about proportion than size, if you get what I mean.
Thanks for stopping by.
Way to go……you have my vote on these. I haven’t done a “mini” challenge but I think it would be a good one for one (or both) of the groups I belong to!!!!!! I really like the 2nd!!!! Hugs………..
Thanks for the vote. Some of the challenge quilts were fantastic, though. These are not in the same category!
It was, actually, a great group challenge. More people participated than usual, and I think those who did had fun with it.
hugs back!
đŸ˜€ Off to my quilty day!!!!!!
Both are very unique. I like them! At least one mini is on my to-do list as well.
I like them, too, thanks. They were both fun but I do like to work in bigger quilts. There are probably more minis in my future, but not a lot.
